The Skyline 400R is a premium sports sedan boasting the overwhelming power and torque of its R30DDTT engine. However, the 400R's flowing aerodynamics can sometimes be insufficient on circuits where high speeds are frequently used. This is because, in the special environment of a circuit, individual aerodynamic settings are required to match the entry speed, road surface, and corner radius, as well as the driver's unique throttle control. The development concept of the GT wing 042, developed specifically for the Esprit 400R, was to be road legal while maintaining stable performance on the circuit.
